Cross theme compatibility

Is there any way I can incorporate the thesis_custom_loop functionality from the thesis theme into another theme?

I like how the thesis theme handles the category search and shows the post_box top below my search bar. I am building a site with a twentytwelve child theme, is there any way I can replicate the category search from the thesis theme into my current theme or is there an equivalent?
