Hi crosswire,
Sorry you ran into issues here.
First–can you tell me what version of BD this is with?
Second, does this problem happen on newer versions of IE as well? (9-11) Or other browsers? (Firefox, Chrome, Safari)
Have you tried a conflict test? Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with Business Directory, which may help pinpoint the issue: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-check-for-plugin-and-theme-conflicts-with-bd/
Last, what specific page are you looking at here? Can I get a link or screenshot to see what is going on?
Thanks!
The BD is Version 3.4.1
I notice the issue on ie8 and ie9. looks fine on all other browsers.
See link for example.

I have not done the conflict test just yet.
OK.
Since it’s not happening on the latest versions, and Microsoft is killing support for all but the latest version of IE (announced last week: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2014/08/07/stay-up-to-date-with-internet-explorer.aspx) you’ll probably need to add some custom CSS to fix this in the interim for your users while they upgrade.
Here is an article about how to use custom CSS with Business Directory in a way that doesn’t get overwritten on upgrade of BD: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-use-custom-styles-with-bd-2-1/
We support the last two versions of any browser out there (and only test on them) just because there’s not enough hours in the day and resources to cover it all.
