Heya guys,

I’m planning on moving my WordPress Site to a different (well actually, I want to start fresh on my current VPS, but that’s besides the point).

Would exporting my database and then moving all the contents of the WordPress Installation directory, and then uploading them again to the new site, be enough to have my WordPress site up and running again? I was more of looking for backup solutions, but my idea seems simple enough to do it.

So I would just:

– Export my database to my computer.
– Download the WordPress installation directory.
– Format my VPS, start fresh.
– Import the database from the file on my computer (recreating the database user before hand).
– Upload all the contents of the WordPress installation site, exactly as it was before.

That sounds about right as long as the domain name is the same, that is, the URL is not changing.

Just make sure the db connection credentials in wp-config.php match the ones on the new server.

Also, after first logging into the WP Dashboard on the new server, re-save the Permalinks.

Heya,

Thanks for your reply. By resaving the credentials do you mean I should go to Settings > Permalinks > and reselect my permalink format? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, but I need to be sure.

Yes, make sure they are still showing the same as before and just click Save.

Hi Leonnears,

I think what @2ninerniner2 was trying to say was to change your database name, username, password, and host in your wp-config.php file.
