Image resize

My theme uses
http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Image_Editor
to resize images.

Google says resized images are
* not progressive
* not compressed (claims can losslessly save 50-90% size most times)

This is annoying.
Can this be fixed?

I believe it also causes thumbnails to get the same performance warnings.
