So I have a website that is hosted through hostgator, I installed WordPress, and stupidly made the home page url 30dayshakeup.com/wordpress. This only allows me to have a homepage at that address. When I tried to switch it in the dashboard back to just 30dayshakeup.com, I am kicked out of the dashboard and it gives me a 404 error. When I go to 30dayshakeup.com, I get the index page. How do I get my homepage to be 30dayshakeup.com?

Hey @joeiwaskiw,

I’m not familiar with HostGator’s technical infrastructure, but after a quick search it looks like they use phpMyAdmin.

If you’re already familiar with HostGator’s cPanel UI, I would re-install WordPress and follow through on your original intent; using ’30dayshakeup.com’.

This is the best course-of-action for you to take, in my opinion, because ‘/wordpress/’ is operating as a canonical URL tag, and the alternative: building out the rest of your site and then retroactively running a series of php scripts to change values in SQL databases is unnecessarily complicated.

In the future, I think you should consider editing & uploading your WordPress files via FTP (this is a link to a thorough, video tutorial by HostGator on the aforementioned).
