comment moderation not working

My wp-admin/edit-comments.php doesn’t display any information. The page source reads “36”. I don’t know where the number came from or what it’s for.

Since my comments queue has worked before, I’ve been guessing that someone spammed me a strange message that somehow messed up my wordpress. Please help.
