Site moved to root; 404 errors using pretty permalinks

    Built site in folder then moved it to root. Pretty permalinks cause half the pages to return 404 errors. Default permalinks allow the pages to show (except Gallery). I have replaced the .htaccess file, used SearchReplace.php, used searchreplaceplugin, checked the wp config file, the functions.php file, disabled the plugins. Nothing works. Any suggestions?
