Need to create custom menus

Hello,

I need to create a custom drop down menu like on hover show the list of items. Am new to word press and i don’t know where to start.I tried like creating pages and added to menu, sliding the sub menus little bit right.I could see the drop down menu but the drop down is displayed when the page loads, not on hover. How can i do the drop down like on hover show drop don items.
