currently it is not possible but it sounds as a really great idea – I’ll try to implement something like this. What do you mean by amount of requests? Do you mean HTTP requests, DB queries etc? I am interested 🙂

I am not a tech guy but from what I noticed the plugin increased my http requests by five, which is a lot. I think the plugin also uses a cdn, which increases by DNS look up. If you can fix this issue that would be great. Also, my site runs with SSL. I have no likes at the moment but when I do I hope the images won’t create security issues.
Can you provide me your website URL? Plugin itself adds a few request – javascript + css and Facebook stuff adds its own – but to be sure please provide your link and I’ll check it 🙂

I do not wish to post my site here, is it possible to send it privately? I think because I do not use a CDN and multiple images, the new requests by the plugin are forcing site speed tests to recommend me to parallelize downloads across hostnames.
