• Ok here are the steps provided by WordPress to upgrade located in the readme file:

    1) Delete your old WP files, saving ones you’ve modified
    2) Upload the new files
    3)Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php
You wanted more, perhaps? That’s it!

OK so say I save all my files I changed do I just delete every single file. Does WP files include everything? What about my plugins??

Sorry but this is a first for me.

  • Don’t delete your plugins. It would, however, be a good idea to deactivate them all temporarily while you get the new version uploaded and get the plugins put in the right place. Reactivate them one by one once you get the new version uploaded. Some plugins have not been upgraded to be compatible with WP 2.0 and up.

If you have a custom theme you prefer to use, you don’t have to delete that either, just make sure that it gets put in the right place when you’ve got all the new files uploaded.

Usually, I keep my wp-content folder with the plugins and themes.
However, if you use Akismet, check for the newer version in the new download.
