There are many ways to find out the version:
(1) in the dashboard.
(2) in the readme.html file located in the root of your WP installation
(3) in the version.php located here: /wp-includes/version.php
@ elegance & style. I don’t see the line you’re describing anywhere on my site. It’s certainly not at the bottom of the blog posts themselves. I’m not sure where the “wp-admin footer” is found though so maybe I’m just looking in the wrong place. I tried the link you provided (after substituting by blogname for “your-site”) and got “server not found”.
@tara: Where on the dashboard is my version number supposed to be? I’ve looked carefully all over the dashboard page. There’s a lot of information there, including space available, the names of my posts, etc. etc. but I’m darned if I see a version number. As for the readme.html and version.php files, I can’t find them. I see no sign of ANY WordPress files in either Program Files, Program Files (x86) or my download directory. (I’m running Windows 8.1). I downloaded WordPress last Monday, June 26 and sorted my files in date order and there is no WordPress file on that date or anything close to it. I did NOT delete the downloaded file after I was done but maybe WordPress cleaned up after itself; I don’t know since I’m new to this program. Also, I don’t know where WordPress installs itself in Windows; I thought all programs went somewhere in Program Files or Program Files (x86) but maybe WordPress does something different. In any case, I can’t find those files.
In short, I still don’t know what my version is or how to find it. I’m an experienced computer user and IT professional with programming and web design skills. It shouldn’t be this hard to determine my version; if it is, it probably says something negative about the design of WordPress….
But I’m not hear to complain about WordPress, just to work with it. Any clarifications of how to find the version would be appreciated 🙂

Generally speaking, unless you changed something, that’s going to tell you your version.

In my previous reply, I have mentioned three ways to check the WP version.

If you are on WordPress 4.0.1 (like me), look carefully under At a Glance on the dashboard.
