Question about permissions

    Is there a reason for the “drwxrwxrwx apache apache” permissions of the uploads folder?

    Could I make it “drwxrwx— apache apache” instead? An then secure it with .htaccess? I am no fan of world writable directories.

    Is this a WordPress feature, or is this an installatron (etc) feature that my web hosting provider should correct?

    Unfortunately, if you want it to upload from inside WP it has to be 777 – otherwise, knock it down to 755 and do your uploads manually.

    Not on MY servers! That’s totally dependent upon server config.

    True – not on mine either, but I’ve been corrected so many times I just gave up figuring mine was unique. I did it the 1st time per instruction and has worked fine at 755 ever since.
