tinymce multi line editor displays extra p character

I have upgraded to WordPress 3.9, disabled all plugins, and switched to the twenty fourteen theme. On the Admin screen, Posts -> Add New, the tinymce multi line editor, in visual mode, displays an extra p character in the lower left corner outside the edit box. How do I remove that p character? Text mode does not display that p charscter.

I use the Magic Fields plugin, with many editor panels on certain types of posts, and seeing all these extra p characters is a nuisance.
