Could you try disable all other plugins?

Apologies for the late reply but it has taken me a while to got home and sort this out. Your suggestion of disabling plugins was spot on and solved the problem. Apparently something in Jetpack was causing the problem and once I Deactivated Jetpack the slideshow worked fine, even when I re-activated Jetpack.
Lesson learnt there and thanks very much for your reply and help with this.
