• Hi, I’m a pretty complete noob at creating websites, but I’ve been trying to follow the 5-minute install instructions carefully. I have a domain, hosted by Laughing Squid, and I’ve been using FileZilla for FTP. I’ve gotten through all the Installation steps up to step 5, running the Install Script. When I do that I get either a “404 Not Found” or a “Safari Can’t find the file” error message. I’ve updated the DNS to the laughing squid defaults with my domain registrar. I can’t figure out what the problem could possibly be.

Please help! I’ve been stumped for a week now. 🙁

I’m using a Mac, if that makes any sort of difference.

  • Those errors suggest that a file has not been uploaded.
I would try reuploading the /wp-admin folder (set to Overwrite all when it first says a “This file exists on the server, what to do?’)

    Is this your site?

When WP is installed do rename the index.html to indexOLD.html and then WP’s index.php will run correctly.

Thank you all for your help. Yes, http://www.liawolff.com is my site. Still having difficulties. I’m not sure that I DO have access to cPanel. All I have is my hosting service’s control panel right now.
