Making Acronym Plugin work

I read about the acronym plugin here: http://wiki.wordpress.org/index.php/Acronym%20Plugin. And it told me to put it in my plugin directory, my question is am I suppose to make a directory called plugins and then drop the file in there or is there more to it?
