Webmaster's Tools showing problems after country blocking

    Hi – I increased my country blocking last night, blocking everything but the USA, Canada, Bahamas, and the UK. After doing that, Google Webmaster’s Tools started showing a huge spike in URL Errors for “Access denied” and “Not found”.

    It makes sense that the Access denied spiked, but will that impair my site’s ranking on google?

    Also why would there be more “not found” errors happening?

    Will the country blocking errors cause google to reduce our standing?

    Or is there something I’m doing wrong that I could fix?

    Hi,

    I don’t recommend using country blocking in that way. You seem to be blocking Google’s crawlers from accessing your site. Instead, unblock everything and then only block countries that are specifically a problem – and only if you can’t block IP addresses or ranges effectively. In other words: Use country blocking sparingly.
