I am creating a wordpress based site for the promotion of my music score application.
As I will be selling music scores as well – download only from within the application – I want to be able to create a custom section for the e-commerce aspect.

However, as the needs are very specific – separate database, no direct downloading, customer sign-in required for purchasing – I am not wanting to use a pre-built e-commerce plugin (at least I have not found one which matches my needs).

Is it possible to create such a section ?
Are there any tutorials which could help with this type of thing (I haven’t found anything myself) ?

It is possible, but I’d suggest that you don’t go about re-inventing the wheel by trying to do it yourself. There’s a lot of good download managers and e-commerce plugins out there that allow you to do what you want to, and it won’t require you spending a whole heap of hours developing something that might work.

If you really do feel the need to do it yourself, I doubt that you’ll find a complete tutorial for what you are looking for. The best thing that you can do is to break down your overall system into smaller pieces, and research how to make each of those pieces work before you start putting them together.
