read more doesn’t work changing default blog’s home

Hello to everybody .
I have followed the explanation in http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#WordPress_as_a_CMS
to changing the default wp homepage with a static Page.

I’m using home.php instead index.php as default home but in this way when i try to write new post with <!–more–> tag , the post is not splitted .
The generated html src is :
text….
<a id="more-5"></a>
continuing text…

What’s wrong ?
