Changing URL-Confirmation

    Hi, I’ve searched & think I know what to do, but before I destroy everything…..

    My blog is currently on a freehost subdomain of xxx.awardspace.com

    I’ve just bought a TLD .co.uk address & have transferred the nameservers to awardspace. Apparently, I can just rename my xxx.awardspace.com directory on the server to the .co.uk domain and it should work fine.

    As I understand it, prior to this I should just go to the WP config page & change the blog URL & WP URL to the new one, log out, rename the server directory, log back in & update the permalink structure & that should be it?

    Have I understood this correctly, or have I missed something? (I will of course backup before starting…)

    Normally, the method you’ve described applies only to a “move” when the old and new location is physically on the same machine.
    I’d ask the host whether this renaming the “free…whatever” to “my-new-domain” would work – regardless of WP or other webtool.

    If they say yes, then proceed.

    The info came from an Awardspace admin mod – he said as long as they’re on the same account (which they are) it should work.

    I guess the advantage is, if it doesn’t work, I can just reset the folder on the server and try again. (with optimism like that, you wouldn’t believe I’ve been using PC’s for 15 years would you?)

    But, if there’s nothing else required WordPress-wise I’ll give it a go.
