RSS problem

    Hello, this is my first post to this forum and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me out.

    Here’s my problem, I’m using a custom WP theme, basically just my code with WP tags added in later, so it’s very possible important code could be missing. I’m trying to add a link to my RSS feed, but no posts show up. Here is a link to my site: http://bugsandcranks.com/.

    The RSS link is in the right column. I don’t believe it’s the link thats the problem, but rather some other code is missing which needs to be detected. I’m very new to RSS so please bare with me.

    If you need any more info or something to be more clearly stated please let me know.

    Try:
    1. Delete the word “feed:” from the link
    2. go admin > Your profile and add a nickname for yourself

    Done and done.

    Ok, so now the feed works, but what’s the deal with the nickname showing up as “<ADMINNICENAME>”?

    Oh, nevermind. Stupid question. Just saw the dropdown option to change that.

    Actually, I know you don’t have all day, but since I’ve got you here maybe I could ask another question or 2.

    What’s the difference between the link with “feed:” and without. It seems to work both ways now. Which is preferred?

    Also, is there a way for the feed to just show category posts if you’re on that category page? I couldn’t find a tag for that, does one exist or should I just go the plugin route?

    1. feed is a new(er) protocoll not recognized by all browsers/readers (google for it)
    2. WP produces out of the box category feeds, like
    example.com/category/mycategory/feed
    2a. Using some conditionals you may be able to display different feeds; see more:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags

    Sweet. Thanks Moshu. Continued development and support are the main reasons I went with WP over the other content publishing solutions. If you’re any indication of the rest of the mods here then I definitely made the right choice.

    Actually, I am the “meanest” mod around here 🙂
    All the others are much nicer…
