I’m using the “Ajax – Result displayed on same page” option.

How do I control the results look/template? It does not use my search.php page and I cannot find any other file in my theme that seems to effect it.

It should work for the Ajax version as well. If not, build your results query within functions.php.

No, the ajax is not using search.php to display result, instead it uses a function to display the result.
The uwpqsf_result_tempt() filter is for you to customize your result. You can refer to this post for the usage.
