How to change content width and wrapper width for single column

    I am new on wordpress.
    I am trying to create a single column version of this great theme.But i am stuck at a point.

    I want the wrapper on the home page at which latest posts are shown to have width of 700 px with padding of 50 px .I tried some code in custom css but of no use.I also then want to change the width of sidebar to 300 px. How should i proceed with it?
