Removed wordpress now homepage doesnt load

    I installed WordPress as was going to do my new site in WordPress as I get no time to update it (due to designing for all my customers all the time!) and this was the easiest way to get a cool new site quickly.

    Thing is, I had second thoughts and was going to remove it completely from the hosting but i had a new customer who wanted a wordpress site so I copied all the directories etc into a new sub-folder on my hosting so I could work on their site in there and deleted the others from my root. Ever since then, my homepage index.html won’t load. It just loads a blank page.

    Clearly it looks like whilst installing, wordpress has messed with my default homepage settings (it must do in order for wordpress to make itself the default when typing in the domain) I had a look online for a solution and one forum said to create a .htaccess file and add the line ‘DirectoryIndex index.html’ and upload that (I didn’t have a .htaccess file already). I tried this and this works but then my wordpress installation in my sub folder doesn’t open! I can access and use the admin but when I try to open the site I get a ‘forbidden’ error message.

    I have removed the .htaccess file for the minute so currently the wordpress installation opens and my homepage doesn’t.

    Can you help? As it is, my homepage loads nothing!

    What else do I need to change/edit to sort this out?

    I have the answer now after lots of messing about. Even though I had removed all traces of WordPress from the root (ie. all the folders wp-cpntent, wp-admin etc.) I left the index.php file in the root not even noticing it. As long as that is in there, wordpress will be seen as the default and loaded but as there was nothing to load it loaded a blank page.

    Simply deleting that, defaulted my homepage back to index.html
