Hi, I’m having kind of a weird issue. Whenever I try to post a link to a new blog post on Facebook (or any site with preview images) the only image that is appearing or available is the cover of my book, that I uploaded with “Totally Booked.”

Even when I set a Featured Image in my blog post, it’s only picking up my book cover image, which is no where in the blog I’m trying to post. This is annoying because, while I love my book cover, I would like the preview to include the images I’m including in my posts.

    Can you assist?

My WordPress site is http://www.emilytimbol.com and I’m using the Firstyme theme.

    Thanks.

    Hi Emily,
    Thanks for your post!

My brilliant plugin co-developer, Ben, is stronger on the code side of things, while I focus more on user interface development, so he may have some other thoughts to add. But I think you may be able to fix this by specifying og code for your posts.

This allows you to control the exact title, excerpt, and image displayed when anyone shares your blog or page post links on Facebook.

There’s a good plugin for this here: http://wordpress.org/plugins/open-graph-metabox/screenshots/

This plugin adds an additional meta tags box at the bottom of your post screens, where you can specify the display.

Once you install that plugin, try adding the meta items (Title, Description, Image link, Post type) for one post, and re-publish when you’re done.

Then check that post on the Facebook Debugger page, to see if adding in the extra meta has accomplished what you want:
    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

If you’re still dealing with the book image showing up rather than the image link you specify in the OG code, stop back here and let me know, and we’ll see what else can be done to solve the issue!

    Cheering you on,
    Kelli

Not yet Ben! I downloaded the Open Graph plug in but the Totally Booked image is still showing up. When I use Open Graph to debug my posts it says that the image in my post isn’t large enough and needs to be “at least 200 X 200 pixels” or else the Totally Booked cover image will be used instead, but both the image in my post, and that I set in the Open Graph plug in meta box, were larger than 200 X 200. I don’t know what else to do. I hate to delete Totally Booked, since I think it’s valuable, but at this point I don’t know what else to do.

    Hey Emily,
I’ve shared links to your latest couple posts with myself on Facebook, just to see what image appears.

On the Fred Phelps post, the Two Words cover does appear, but there’s also an arrow on top of it, and when I click that, it lets me choose which image to use.

So you’re on the right track and making progress!

    Cheering you on,
    Kelli
