I just transferred my domains to a different provider and had to reinstall WordPress again. With three it worked and I set up the new account. With one I got an error message saying that the installation failed. The opening page with Hello World shows nonetheless, but I didn’t get the option to set a main user.
Now the problem is that I can’t log in to the dashboard.

I tried the “Retrieve Lost Password”, but it doesn’t recognize any of the usernames/emails that I use with WordPress.

Tried uninstalling/deleting from the server and reinstalling, but I must be doing something wrong there, because after I try reinstalling I get the message that WordPress has already been installed.
Deleting just the database just poses more problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Have you tried the following:

    1. FTP: access your site using FTP or your webhost’s dashbord
    2. FTP: rename ‘wp-config.php’ to ‘0wp-config.php’
    3. browser: http://www.yourdomain.com
    4. 5-minute install will start afresh

    Should that fail…

    1. FTP: access your site using FTP or your webhost’s dashbord
    2. FTP: rename ‘wp-config.php’ to ‘0wp-config.php’
    3. download a fresh copy of WP-files
    4. FTP: upload the fresh files to your site; OVERWRITEING the existing files
    5. browser: http://www.yourdomain.com
    6. 5-minute install will start afresh

    == == == alternatively

    1. FTP: access your site using FTP or your webhost’s dashbord
    2. FTP: edit ‘wp-config.php’, correcting any and all errors [make sure you have all info form your webhost etc.]
    3. save and upload the corrected ‘wp-config.php’
    4. browser: http://www.yourdomain.com

    Thanks for your reply.
I tried the above, and as soon as I change the wp-config I get an error message that there was an “Error establishing a connection with the database” (even if I wait for awhile and refresh).
As soon as I change back the wp-config to its original file, it loads again.
I found the username and password from the wp-config file, but when I enter that information it won’t let me in.

As far as I know the info in the wp-config is correct, my only problem was that I couldn’t login to the WP dashboard and with the information from the wp-config I thought that would be solved, but apparently it isn’t…

Trying to find the cause of these things can be a lengthy process.
I expect starting over – for this particular site only – should be the quickest and ‘safest’ route to take.

    NOTE!!

    1. make sure the database FOR THIS SITE is empty!
[use phpmyadmin / webhost dashboard or the webhost’s help to achieve this!]
    2. download a fresh copy of the WP-installation files
    3. write down all info required before starting the installation
    4. write down all info you entered yourself, such as usernames and paswords
    5. take your time, work slowly and accurately

You should be up and running in no-time.

W.P. Ginfo, thanks for your help.
Starting over indeed was the quickest way to solve it. Deleted everything and reinstalled. Now it’s working.

Check for the next “problem” in my next post 😀
