Genericons not showing on Android
-
Hi,
I love this plugin but I’m having problems on android’s 4.2.2 aosp browser. Tried to clear cache, history, cookies; No luck… I’ve checked my CSS and it seems ok, no font overrides as far as I can tell (I’m using xili-languages child-theme of twenty-twelve). Problem is present on both my tablet and phone which use the same OS version & mod. Works fine if I use the Chrome browser but this is not the default browser for these gadgets…
Also, I can see all icons on http://genericons.com on my mobile/tablet so the problem must be at my end. Not sure what I’m doing wrong as I’ve installed the plugin automatically..
Here’s the site if you want to have a look: http://portuguesesoulkitchen.com/?lang=en_gb
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks!

Does it work on the default twenty-twelve theme?
Do you have any mobile theme plugins going on?
Not having a single android device means it’s a bear to even attempt to reproduce here :/
Hi Mika,
Thanks for your reply. This seems to be a problem with the Twenty twelve theme which is the base of my child-theme… Here’s what I’ve done:
1. Activated default twenty-twelve theme – icons not working
2. Deactivated all plugins except genericon’d – still not working
3. Reinstalled twenty-twelve theme – still not working
4. Changed theme and tried several other themes – working for all other!
5. Reactivated all plugins – still working for all other!
6. Changed back to twenty twelve – not working again… πIt’s a shame because I really like your plugin but I’m kind of stuck to twenty-twelve because of all the customisations I’ve done for the xili language child theme… Please let me know if you find a solution.
Thanks for your help!
CWow. I would have thought TwentyThirteen, or something that had it’s own copy of Genericons, would clash.
I’ll see if I can track down an error with Twenty Twelve.
Thanks for looking into it Mika. It would be great if you could fix it, these icons look awesome and that browser has a good reputation within the android community.
Also, I think you can use an emulator if you download the Android SDK tools but you probably know that already π
Cheers!
CTested it with untouched TwentyTwelve on Samsung Galaxy Tab.
All looks fine.Hi violacase, are you using the default android browser, the one with a blue planet earth icon? If so, can you please test my website on your phone http://portuguesesoulkitchen.com/?lang=en_gb
Let me know if you see the home and search icons on the nav menu. I tested it on my mate’s android and he could see some Chinese characters. On my phone and tablet I see nothing.. But might a problem on my end.
Cheers!
try without
text-rendering: optimizeLegibility;try without text-rendering: optimizeLegibility;
Removing ‘text-rendering: optimizeLegibility;’ from twenty twelve CSS solved it! Thanks a lot wp_roman! (And all of you who replied)
Still trying to get my head around what exactly text-rendering is for and possible consequences but removing it seems to have sorted a lot of other issues I was having with fonts when using mobile browsers. Excellent!
Thanks!

Wow! Mick thank you! I’ve been trying to install the dev kit and recreate that problem. Android is unknown to me.
