Help with Members and Custom Post Type UI

Anyone have experience making the Members plugin work with custom post types set up with the Custom Post Type UI plugin?
CPT UI gives you the option of setting a Compatibility type. But Members doesn’t seem to be able to anything with those directly.
For example in a CPT UI post type I set Compatibility Type=events. Then in Members I add a custom capability like edit_events but it doesn’t seem to have any effect.
What am I missing here? Do I need to map the capabilities in functions.php or something?
