Adding additional saving

I am attempting to modify buddypress to add more information on register. Its pretty defined to what is wants to save as far as base wordpress information and additional xprofile fields but I have to add a group of check boxes (preferences)that need to be saved to a different table. Can anyone tell me how to add a second function call to save that information when registering?
