I am trying to upgrade an old version of Events Manager plugin. I started with version 3.098. I tried to do the automatic upgrade and got an error saying “Upgrade to version 4.300 before upgrading to this version.” So I got the 4.300 files and copied them over. Now I get an error that says “upgrade to version 3.096 before doing this upgrade”. It is a circle now and I get an error telling me to upgrade to a different version, no matter what version I put in. When I put in 3.096 I get this error: “Fatal error: Call to undefined method WP_User::WP_User() in /home/www/firstmet/public_html/wp-content/plugins/events-manager/classes/em-person.php on line 24”

    Any help will be appreciated.

  • I am experiencing this ‘upgrade to version’ cycle as well.

There is another answer on the forums that seems to be what might fix things for me. I haven’t tried this yet, but I do have both the stated plugins:

‘Events Manager’ and ‘Events Manager Extended’

Have you tried deactivating and reactivating the plugin?

Yes, I have tried deactivating and re-activating the plugin. This does not solve the problem.

I can confirm that the solution found in the above link does allow me to install a current version of ‘Events Manager’.

I ended up dropping all tables that had ‘dbem_’ in them, and removing items in wp_options that had a value ‘dbem_’ in it.

I won’t say that this is a viable solution seeing as how I now do not have any of the events. But luckily I’m doing this on a dev site, so now I’m going to try and zero in on what setting in the DB was really causing the problems that I’m seeing.
