Problem with members registration/update

I installed members and found it very simple and easy to use.
My application is very simple and everything was working fine until I started updating members information

I set up a members only area which is only accessible after login.
In this area members are able to view sensitive information and to update their user account info and their password.

Only problem is that after a password/users info update, members no longer have access to the members area even though they are approved..
I updated the user details directly on the dashboard while the user was logged in.
Members are forced to login again to gain access even though it still says that they are logged in.

This looks like a bug, but maybe there is a work-around
