I loaded the custom template through the ftp client and when I signed in to my account it says there’s an error. The style sheet is missing. I checked the ftp client and the style sheet transferred over with the folder. I’m not sure what to do now.

My templates in my wordpress directory are overlapping and completely unformatted. I tried deleting the code for the templetes and reselecting classic for now and it still only shows the unformatted mess of colors and text all over the page πŸ™ a nightmare aaaaaaarrrggggggghhhhh!!! Help!! Please! πŸ™‚

  • 1. Many times themes are uploading in “duplicate” folders, like
    wp-themes/themes/mytheme/mytheme -<== check for this!

    2. My templates in my wordpress directory are overlapping and completely unformatted.
This doesn’t really make sense: you don’t see your template files, just the result they output!

    Thanks for the quick reply!

Are the duplicate folders in the ftp client or the wordpress? I checked both in the ftp I deleted the second folder. Everything is still the same.

Second problem solved. πŸ™‚ They were overlapping styles.

I still need a little help please. Thanks. πŸ™‚

    None of the above πŸ™‚
There is nothing in the “ftp client” per se. On the left you see what is on your computer and on the right you see what is on your server (host).
Check what is on the server.

I checked it (the servers folder) and it’s there. The whole folder is there including the style.css which I’m assuming is what supposedly is missing. The theme is a becca it’s called thirteen of the beccary.com site.

Please help!!! I have working on this all week. πŸ™

Ok. I’ve made an educated guess as to where your blog might be. And if it’s where I think it is, it is currently set to the “Classic” theme. And what was interesting was that when I retrieved the classic CSS I got a blank page.

    http://YourDomain.org/wordpress/wp-content/themes/classic/style.css

Now, I either guessed wrong on the domain, or you have some problems with your installation. Classic’s style.css should not be blank.

Have you verified your file and directory permissions? This article will help: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions

You need to ensure that your web server can read your theme files. As noted in several of your threads now, your themes live under the /wordpress/wp-content/themes directory and each is in its own folder.

I found the duplicate on the server “wp-themes/themes/mytheme/mytheme” I am not sure what to do next.

Move everything under /mytheme/mytheme up one level so it is just under ONE /mytheme

I noticed that to HandySolo. I am having a time. I really want to use this program. I am having the harest time. I guess I need to reinstall WP. I’m being hosted by Godaddy.com. They did the install and I had to wait 24-48 hours for it to connect to the server or whatever. I’m going crazy. I don’t understand the difference between the download.zip and the download.tar.gz. I read the instructions. It might as well been in greek. I don’t what to do.

The file is duplicated on the server. I don’t what that means or what I’m supposed to do about it being duplicated. I’m in tears. I need an angel of mercy!!

Once I get the template installed I really don’t anticipate their being in other problem. This template issue seems to be the largest hurdle.

    carmenmich,

    refer to this image:

thats the structure you are aiming for.

Do I really need to reinstall it or will it be resolved when I load the template I want?

if you are seeing your blog and only having a template issue, no, you should not need to reinstall.

What you need to do is make sure that your files are where they need to be, look at the image i posted.

Inside wp-content is a themes dir.
Inside themes is where you put your themes.
Each theme get its own directory.

so, for example you might have something like this:

    /wp-content/themes/classic

    you might also have:

    /wp-content/themes/theme1

    and

    /wp-content/themes/theme2

All three of those theme examples, theme1, theme2, and classic are in their own directories.

Most themes are going to have similar and same file names, dont let that confuse you. Each theme gets its own directory, just like you see in the image.

FINALLY!!!!!! YYYESSSSS!!! I DID IT!!! The problem was when I was sent the files over from my hard drive to the server file I needed to click to the second folder and send that over, NOT the main template folder. So when I double clicked to open the second theme folder in my hard drive in the FTP client, it worked!!! Problem solved!!! Thanks so much WP team and members for all your help.

    your welcome πŸ™‚
