No plugins visible

I’ve tried to get the plugins in WordPress to be visible, but I’m having trouble. After initial install, I noticed that the the stock “askimet” doesn’t show up in the list.

I’ve tried adding two or three different additional plugins to the wp-content/plugins directory, but I’ve had no luck.

Any suggestions?
