Categories will not display

    although my categories are present in the DB they do not show up.
    when I look here it shows me about ten categories http://12hourdealsforyou.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
    It also shows that I have 133 categories.
    If I place a letter into the search box and search all categories containing that letter show up.
    I was using the categories as a navigation menu and they were mostly nested. when the search shows me the categories they are no longer nested.
    I need to get these categories to show up again, who can help me?
    so far I tried and added a new admin-user, I cleared out all caches,I shut down and restarted my computer,I repaired and optimized my DB and re-installed WP 3.8.1
