Have you tried disabling all the plugins, specially javascript based ones to check if the media library works? Or the problem is that the images inside your Media Library aren’t showing?

i tried disabling the plugins. I saw now that i can insert pictures, so the media library seems to work, also after reactivating the plugins. although i cannot get an image to show up in my header or slider. Is that media library related at all? or is it the theme?
Before the update to 3.8 i couldn’t see any pictures in the media library, now I can see the little examples in the library.
Almost all of the sliders use the Media Library so .. yes, the problem probably will be related to that.
Probably is a jQuery conflict. Maybe jQuery is duplicated or various versions are being loaded.
Try duplicating your site into another one. Update all your plugins and check if the problem still occurs.
If it’s still going on ,u may have to check 1 by 1 which plugin is making the malfunction.
Or you could check the console in Firefox or Chrome to see the error. You’ll probably have one.
