I like to make this happen for free, since my budget is very limited.
I wasn’t suggesting you pay for the guided transfer, but I was wondering if you have read the part following that – the steps to follow to move your site?
Where are you planning to move it to – hosting?
Yes, I have read it and got stuck here:
In the new blog, go to Tools โ Import โ WordPress and upload the file you downloaded in step 1. Make sure that you choose the option to Download & import file attachments. This option will be available after you upload the file.
I can’t find my new blog… Sorry, but that is how much of a beginner i am ๐
Where are you planning to move it to – hosting?
You have to set up (and pay for) hosting someplace – have you read this?
http://codex.wordpress.org/Before_You_Install
I like to move it from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, so I am able to add some plugins and customize my website/blog more
Yes, I know that – but it sounds like you’re thinking that .ORG hosts sites – which is not the case. You have to pay for your own hosting and manage it yourself. This site (WordPress.ORG) only provides the software (WP core, themes and plugins) and these support forums.
These are the recommended hosts –

Although there are many others out there. Do be aware that free hosting does not run WP very well (if at all) so that’s not recommended.
hmmm, I did pay a host company: hostgator
so what do I need to do now?
Install WordPress- they have a 1 click install
Do you have a domain name working there?
Once it’s set up and running you can then
Import your data from WordPress.COM:
In the new blog, go to Tools โ Import โ WordPress and upload the file you downloaded in step 1. Make sure that you choose the option to Download & import file attachments. This option will be available after you upload the file.
I tried the one click install, all it seem to do is downloading it onto my desktop
I have my domain with wordpress.com
Where would I find the one click install, maybe i am looking at the wrong thing?
Guess domain server would be with hostgator? or wordpress.com?
HostGator – look in their documentation for the nameserver settings.
