Comments Disappeared?
-
Hi Esme0,
if you are saying that the comments number has disappeared from the blog post excerpt but you can still see the comments themselves when you open the post then this has happened to me before and hopefully the answer is simple. If you go to your dashboard area and click on Settings / Discussions and then go to the second section entitled “Other comment settings” you should see a setting that says “Automatically close comments on articles older than xx days.
It may be that the number of days you have specified has been exceeded which would make any comment numbers disappear on the front blog post although they should still be there when you click on the post itself.
Just extend the number of days to keep showing the comments.
Have you tried:
– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
KatieKat (cute name) – The issue is not the number of comments shown. Comments are not appearing at all nor is there a form for people to leave new comments.
Esmi (love the name, hehe!) – I switched themes and it does seem to be the theme I’m using, which I figured as much. I’m cool with resetting the plugin folders thanks to the page you linked, but the other option is to reupload everything for WordPress? If it’s just the theme, isn’t there a simpler way of figuring out the issue? Sorry, I know you’re helping but I have to wonder if there’s another route to go down first.
What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?
I downloaded it from ThemeForest (http://labs.am-themes.com/?theme=dashwp). I’ve asked the creator many questions but his answer is always “plugins.” I followed the instructions for resetting the plugins folder and it still doesn’t show a section to post new comments or shows old comments.
Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme?
There doesn’t seem to be a problem when using any other theme, such as the Twenty Thirteen theme.
I found a similar thread (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/comments-box-will-not-appear-at-all-on-my-site?replies=8) and I completely understand if only the creator can help, but since he doesn’t seem to understand either, I’m left with trying to find out the issue within the coding myself 🙁
I think you need to go back to the theme’s developer and point him to this topic. It’s his theme that seems to be the problem.
I figured out the issue! For some odd reason, the comments.php from one theme mixed in with the one I was having problems in. I initially installed the theme through my WordPress dashboard, next time I’ll direct upload to my FTP to avoid these type of issues.
Thanks for your patience Esmi!
Glad to hear that you got it sorted. 🙂
No new comments have come in on current post and all comments from prior posts have disappeared. Comments page shows -0- in all categories (pending, approved, spam, trash) when there should be tens of thousands. On older posts, it shows # (ex. 12comments) but they are not showing and it says “be first to comment”.
I have a customized theme and have not made any changes except for the updates prompted. Help please.

Is there a way to find out why my comments are no longer showing in my blog posts? I have a very limited knowledge of editing .php files, but I’d still like to understand how to fix this issue =
Example: http://esmeraldaip.com/clinging-to-my-brick-and-mortar-stores/
The original theme has comments displaying just fine (http://labs.am-themes.com/?theme=dashwp). The creator says it’s my plugins but I’ve deleted them all just to test that theory and that’s not the case. So I’m wondering if there’s some way to pinpoint the issue?
I believe I read the forum rules correctly, but please let me know if this belongs elsewhere!
