  • I have the same problem.
All the wp-content/uploads/2013/december folders of my wordpress sites are CHMOD with 744. I have to change manually.

Is it a WP 3.7.1 mistake?

Directories should be 755 not 744. WordPress doesn’t change the permissions.

    No. πŸ˜‰

    Yes it’s a 3.7 problem. If I use 3.6 I don’t have any problem…

I also think it’s caused by the last update because all of my 3.7 sites have the problem. And the 3.6 haven”t.

@esmi : i have exactly the same problem as jhonb so is it really a good idea to open a new thread?

    Yes.

Ok tell me when the thread is on ! πŸ™‚

Ask your hosting company – see Jan’s post above.

    It’s not a hosting system. I have my own dedicated server and with 3.6 I had no problem… It’s a wordpress 3.7 problem…

You seem to be the only person with this particular problem, so it’s obviously server/site specific.

If I install wordpress 3.6 now… it works. Why?!

I’m not the only one having this problem πŸ™‚

I’m running about 15 3.7.1 sites and none of them have this problem. Approx 11 million other people are using 3.7.1. How many do you see reporting a problem here? If there was such a general problem in WP 3.7.1, we would have been over-run with support topics on the subject but that hasn’t happened. So it seems valid to assume that this is server/site specific.

    Hi,

I have also had this problem this morning. Since updating to 3.7.1, it is the first time I have had a new upload folder created (first upload since the beginning of December) and the permissions were set as 755 and not 744. I had to change them manually via control panel. When I checked with 123-reg, it’s supposedly a known issue.

However, I’m non-technical so I don’t know how/why permissions are generated when a new folder is creasted on the server. If anyone wishes to share how this works, it’d be much appreciated.

Humor me: can you ask your host what the default umask for creating directories?
