Updated theme not reading child theme files

I recently updated my theme (Virtue). I was using a child theme for some modifications but now that I’ve updated, the modifications in my child theme are not appearing on the site anymore. I’ve tried re-doing the files in my child theme and it still seems to be completely ignoring the files in favor of the parent them.
My site is http://otheric.com. The two things I had changed were the text in the footer and the page template to instruct it not to display the page title (visit the About page to see that the page title is displayed, the home page has a separate option to remove the page title so that is not showing.) I also want to instruct it to display the menu text directly after the site title but cannot figure out how.

PS. When I edit theme options through a child theme, is it editing the files in the parent folder?
