Deleting Catrgories

I had someone design my wordpress website for me and I am now running the Website cause I use it for retail purposes. I don’t like how the categories were listed on the website and they already have items in them and I would now like to delete some of the categories and assign new ones. I want to know if in deleting the categories I’ll be deleting the products that are in them. Or are the products not affected?
