I have installed WP 3.71 and have created a homepage, posts in different categories, and pages (one for each category), all within the Twenty Twelve theme. When I preview anything and everything, there always is my site title at the top followed by the word ‘HOME’, before the info starts; this appears even when I preview a page containing posts.

Something(s) I am doing must be wrong. I have tried many changes over the past several weeks, but just cannot get out of this problem. The exact same situation occurs when I switch to use the Twenty Eleven theme.

Your advice for a rawbeginner is much appreciated (please be explicit)!

  • Do you perhaps need to review creating a static front page?

I have created a static status for my front page already. The situation appears to be that everything is categorized and displayed by the software as a Home Page, even if it is created as a Post (i.e., created as a New Post).

My dashboard>settings>readings displays only 4 items, none of which is home page versus blog (= #3 on the CODEX instructions you have referred to above).

Please give me more advice! Thank you!

I read that page weeks ago (and now!), and think I followed it fully as far as I could. Under the section, Creating a Static Front Page, it leads to step 3, starting with “Go to Administration>Settings>Reading panel; I use Dashboard>Settings>Reading, and run into a dead end. I see no Front Page there, and hence see no drop down menu … ditto for Posts Page. As part of my problem, I notice that several other items in the CODEX descriptions do not match what I see with WP3.7.1.

Am I possihbly in the wrong place? Am I missing seeing something that is hidden? If so, please do not be bashful about telling me what to do. Thank you!

If you do not see this, http://codex.wordpress.org/images/2/25/options-reading.png then we have another problem somewhere.

Bingo! Your image (thank you very much!) shows a clearly different display than I am viewing; here is text for what I see (sorry, I do not know how to save a screenshot):
    Reading Settings
Blog pages show at most posts
Syndication feeds show the most recent items
For each article in a feed, show
For each article in a feed, show

I originally acquired WP3.7, and then some days later I updated to 3.7.1. Should I scrap all and start over with a fresh copy of WP? Please suggest what should I do now? Many thanks!!!

(to esmi and kmessinger:) The entire section for “Front page displays” is NOT shown on my Reading Settings panel. I am awaiting your instructions about what I should do now (e.g., reload WP?). Please help! Thank you again!

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

I inactivated all 4 plugins, and then activated the Twenty Thirteen theme. The result displayed under Reading Settings is 100% identical = the uppermost section is missing Front page displays.

I await your expert advice about what I should do now. Thank you again!

[Moderator Note: No bumping. If it’s that urgent, consider hiring someone.]

Delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders. DO NOT touch the wp-content folder. From a fresh download of WP extract the two folders and using ftp upload them to your site.

Thank you for this response. I will try exactly what you state. If it does not work then, I will initiate a new query.
