Thumbnails-only WordPress Gallery?

    The first picture on the WordPress Gallery codex shows an screenshot of a gallery that is thumbnails only and no slider. For the life of me I cannot find this option/functionality. I really just want 200×200 thumbnails and no slider—exactly like the first screenshot in the codex here ( https://codex.wordpress.org/The_WordPress_Gallery ) but with captions. Has anyone accomplished this?
