    Hi Tobias,

Have just started using Tablepress for a client site to display lists of product items in various Product categories. So far the client is really happy and your plugin has been excellent value.

The client now would like to add shopping cart style functionality to the tables. That is:

    a) Specify a quantity per one or more rows (product items) and then aggregate the selected products together into a “cart.

    b) Do this on one or more tables and continue adding the selected product(s) and quantities to the cart.

    c) Review the cart and adjust quantities – remove lines etc…

    d) Hit a “Submit” button which then produces a summary of the order and emails a copy to the client and also to my client.

    e) At this stage the need for eCommerce is not required. Just Order type functionality.

    Several questions:

    1) Are the above requirements in the realm of do-able in Tablepress?
    2) If so would it require extensive coding? Or would a combination of the plugin and one or more extensions do the trick?
    3) If the coding was beyond my personal capability – would you be willing to take this on for a fee or perhaps you could recommend someone familiar with Tablepress that could assist?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Kind regards,

    Robert

    Hi Robert,

    thanks for your post.

I’ll make it quick and (hopefully) painless:
This is not something that you should be using TablePress for.

Basically, this is simply totally out of scope for the plugin. TablePress is good in displaying tabular data, but it does not have capabilities to re-use this data, e.g. after processing forms. It’s lacking even basic querying mechanism (that a real DB system has), and that would make implementing this VERY tough.

Instead, you should really look into an eCommerce plugin, even the simpler ones should be a better start than anything that you can come up with in TablePress.
Not only would those give you less trouble when implementing this, but it would also give you more flexibility once tables are no longer the only form of displaying the products (think of a real product gallery, or details pages and similar).

    Regards,
    Tobias
