Help with custom footer that won't go away!
-
Hello, I’ve recently taken over a wordpress site which is set up with the twenty ten template. I’d like to replace it with the yoko template and give it a general over-haul. I can do that no problem, but what I can’t work is how to get rid of the text of the foot of the page:
The URL is: http://www.rst.org.uk
It’s not the wordpress credit that’s the problem, it’s the bit below that with links to ‘Home’, ‘Privacy Policy’, ‘Terms and Conditions’ etc. I can’t work out how that’s been put there and how to edit it, or get rid of it. When I apply a new theme the text stays there in the same colour and font, which makes it stick out like a sore thumb. I’ve checked the footer.css file and there doesn’t seem to be anything in there that is creating it, and presumably that file is overwritten when a new theme is applied anyway?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can lend me!

Do not edit the Twenty Ten theme itself. First create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.
Thanks Esmi, but that doesn’t really answer my question. I know about child themes, but I just can’t find where this text has been embedded so I can’t do anything with it! Any ideas?
Have you checked the theme’s footer.php file?
I have checked the footer.php file and there’s nothing in there that would create this text. It also remains when I apply a new theme and the footer.php is replaced by the new themes file. That’s what has got me stumped.
If you are trying to use another theme, please post in that theme’s dedicated sub-forum. That way, we all know where we are and what is being asked.
Thanks for trying to help me Esmi, but I get the feeling you’ve not fully read my original post. The problem is clearly related to a specific theme. The text is there in twenty ten, and it’s also there if I apply a different theme. I’m new to wordpress but it seems that the text is been generated outside of the theme code.
For future reference for anyone reviewing this thread I resolved the problem myself. The footer text was being created by a custom plug-in which I have now deactivated.
It is not being generated by WordPress either. Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?
Resolved.
