    hi! I have had a wordpress.org site for about a year. i’m not loving the site name I chose and wondering how I would go about keeping my same site, all my posts/pluging/etc, but changing my name. how do I buy a new URL and then transfer my existing site over to it? I would love to keep the old url for a while just in case people still type that in, they could still be redirected to the new site. any ideas?

    You need to contact your hosts and/or existing domain name registrars to arrange this. It should be possible to register a new domain name, point it to the existing site, change the urls in WordPress and the finally “park” the old domain name so that it simply points to the new domain name.

    All in all, the initial process should take about 3 days to complete – from domain name registration to the new name pointing at the existing site. Once you have confirmed that this is working,see Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to change the WordPress urls correctly. Then you can ask your hosts/registrars to park the old domain name.
