• Since the 2.0.xx series of nextgen-gallery (using 2.0.30) when I import images from a folder on the filesystem, the complete folder is copied (in options I have disabled backup-images) and the gallery is using this copied folder.

This is very unsatisfying as from the moment of import more images are added to the original folder automatically. So when I want to scan this original folder for new images, no images are found as nextgen gallery is using the copied folder, where no images are added ofcourse. If there only was one folder I could live with it, to correct this by hand, but there are many folders now and more in the future.

Why this extra unnecessary step? Please skip it and let nextgen-gallery use the original folder, then all problems are solved with the import and scanning for new images.
