Hi, I have a large number of large files in my root folder. They are named core.XXXXXX and are about 77mb each. They appear after a backup each monday.

Can anyone advise if they are needed or if I can delete them safely, also if they are not needed, how can I stop them being created as they add up to several GB over a short time.

    Gday mate,

I have no idea what is creating them but they do not look like WordPress core files.

If you don’t want them backed up you can always exclude them.

    Cheers,
    Mikey

Turns out they’re PHP core dump after a PHP failure.

Probably related to the back but not part of it.

Apparently they can be turned off
