• I have a few old blogs. They were kind of popular for a few years.

The sites kept getting hijacked. I could not keep up with it myself. I ended up giving up. Google took my sites and banned them from the search rankings etc…

I want to hire someone to fix the sites, and keep them safe. I want to relaunch the sites, but still keep the old posts, as they did get traffic when they were indexed by Google. What should I do? Thanks for any and all help.

    I own the .com’s
The sites are self hosted WordPress blogs.
The blogs are mostly sports blogs.
    I am hosted on BlueHost.com

  • Do you know how they were getting in by chance? SQL Injection? Brute-Force? Botnet? More info the better.

I am not sure. My question is more based on, who should I hire, or how should I go about hiring someone.

Friend, the cost to do that would be astronomically high, like $70,000 a month high. People aren’t cheap, you would have to hire someone to manage the sites 24/7 and monitor for brute force or botnet attempts as well as fix all the current issues with your code. You are better off figuring out how they got in, in the first place.

    $70,000 to secure a site?

    Surely you jest.

This is a simple request. There are a ton of people saying that they are experts. Someone should be able to fix my site, secure my site, and guarantee to keep an eye on it for a nominal fee.

Ok, well let me try to help you out here then. When they break into your site, did your site get obliterated? Were files deleted? Was your password changed by them?

no. It just started to do redirects, and invisible google spam links were in the footer. etc…

$70,000 a month is ridiculous. That’s how many developers on full-time wages? (hint: between 4 and 20 depending on where and how much you pay them) That’s just a stupid price to put out there with absolutly no knowledge of what’s actually needed.

If you are after that sort of service, there’s a few places that will help you out. Sucuri I know looks after the security side of things and can help with cleaning up hacks if they happen, but if you want something more personal, then post at http://jobs.wordpress.org and you’ll get a lot of people that will be happy to help you out for a reasonable price.

That is the going rate for my guy, so no its not ridiculous when you are aiming at security. Posting on wordpress jobs will just get you a handful of indians who only know how to say ok, yes, and wheres my money. Sucuri is very good, I haven’t tried them myself though.

If that works for you, then great. 🙂 I will only say that 99.99999% of the people on here can’t (and most likely won’t ever be able to) afford to hire an outside company at that price, or anything even close to it so throwing prices like that out there is doing nothing more then scaring users off. I understand that it’s a great thing, it’s just out of the reach of most users here which is why I do try very hard to avoid answers like that.

I have heard good and bad things about job postings on here – but it’s the main “approved” site that the mods allow on here, so that’s what I’d stick with. As for Sucuri I use it for a lot of customer sites here and I use it mainly for the monitoring after some of our sites got hacked thanks to the TimThumb exploits that were going around, and they did the job pretty well for the amount that they charged. I don’t use their hack repairs as I’ve become pretty good at it myself, but when I have seen them do it they do fix the problem. I’m not sure that they fix the underlying issues, but that’s where you’d start spending more to hire someone that knows what they are doing.

Thanks. This is the info I was looking for. Keep it coming if there is anything else.

Sorry, but threads on hiring people get closed per the forum guidelines.
