I just tested it on my wordpress, http://exemple.com/?page_id=16 got automatically redirected to http://exemple.com/article-name.
In any case it’s easy to go back to your previous settings.
edit: You’re talking of posts not page, there is no redirection for me, but it still works.
Your links will still work if you are moving from the default permalink structure to a custom one but not the other way around.
nope! just checked it out and destroyed many of my links. 🙁 it doesnt work and after changing back to the link with numbers i cant reach my articles anymore…HELP

thats weird, i changed back and if you click the link it shows the titel although i double checked in my post itself…the titelname isnt anymore in as permalink structure?!?!
This is probably due to the way how does the WordPress handle friendly URL’s.

So, I guess the number there is to avoid possible conflicts. But that’s just a wild guess 😉
