I’m trying to add a border around the whole site but I seem to be having some trouble.

The site is themacaronmix.com

What CSS did you try?

But it doesn’t seem to come show anything.

You don’t add things to the theme’s style.css file, you either create a Child Theme and use your own style.css file or use a Custom CSS plugin to hold your CSS modifications.
